Domaine Rieflé - Alsace L'arabesque 2016 Ad Quadratum
Score : 88+ points
Bright straw-gold. Aromas and flavors of vanilla and tropical fruit, then herbs and honey emerge with aeration. Savory, luscious and long, but currently marked by slightly edgy acidity that contributes a lively nuance on the medium-long finish. This is very much in the style of the 2016 vintage, and while not the usual opulent, in-your-face Gewürz - or mainly Gewürz, as this is a blend of 75% Gewürztraminer and 25% Muscat (both Muscat Ottonel and Muscat d’Alsace) - it has not completely come together yet and tastes a little disjointed to me. At 12.5% alcohol, 11 g/L residual sugar and 5 g/L total acidity, it is also not especially dry (the back label reads 2 on the sweetness scale of 1 to 4). I’d try cellaring this for at least another year.
